Worcester
I left Broadway, where I spent an uneventful overnight to get to my next house/pet sitting gig in Worcester. I lucked out to find sits along the way to finish my English vacation off & get to Edinburgh with the least amount of money spent on lodgings. God knows I was spending enough on food :-/
Marc, the host of the gig, was off to Spain & I was to look after his two cats…Tommie & Stevie. This ended up being the easiest sit ever as the boys had a cat flap to come & go & didn’t have a litter tray to clean out. Yay! They were sweet cats, big as lions, & I enjoyed staying in Marc’s modern townhouse style flat.
I spent most of my time in Worcester walking & walking & walking…downtown, the meadows near my suburb, and a cemetery that I of course stumbled onto. Surprise! I took a day trip too. Inkberrow, the cutest little town about a 30 minute jaunt away, as research had it there were country walks that couldn’t be missed close by. The Bulls Head Inn Pub also invited me in to site a minute & have a pint. The walk I chose there was so absolutely gorgeous, that when I finished it, I turned around & walked it again. Walks around the English countryside have become my everything.
When Kevin, my new friend from lunch in Malmesbury, asked if I was free for lunch while close by him, I of course freed up my packed schedule. The handsome Englishman & I met at a restaurant in the heart of Worcester & talked until we tore ourselves apart a couple of hours later. Don’t you love when you meet people & everything is just easy. You don’t put up barriers, you don’t worry if they’ll like you, you don’t care if there is sauce on your chin…it’s these sorts of friendships quickly formed that you just know will stand the test of time.
Much too soon, my time in Worcester came to an end & after loading the little Peugeot up with God knows what, off I went to discover more adventures & hopefully friendships. I have discovered how to win people over…smile, say hello, put the phone down & act interested in striking up a conversation. Race, creed, religion or political preference mean nothing when there is a genuine interest in having a quick amicable chat. Not every encounter will last the test of time, but it is meaningful. One conversation you have with someone can have a lasting impression on you, or them. Be positive. Act upbeat. Laugh. Joke around a bit. See the brightness. Walk on the sunny side of life.
